The IStructE North West Young Members hub are pleased to announce a CPD webinar on sustainability.

This webinar will be hosted by Natasha Watson and will mainly focus on navigating the climate emergency and realistic initiatives to combat this. It is also an opportunity for students, graduates and engineers to learn more about green roles within the construction sector, the importance of seeing the wider picture and understand how to reduce embodied carbon in building projects.

Amid climate anxiety, Natasha will share practical advice on how we can continue to challenge ourselves to identify solutions and what small steps we can take collectively to make a positive impact and help solve this urgent problem.

Speaker

Dr Natasha Watson is the embodied carbon UK lead for structures at Buro Happold. She completed her Engineering Doctorate in Low Impact Building Materials in 2016 and has been advocating for their increased use, plus the reduction of embodied carbon in the built environment ever since. She is now an integral part of Buro Happold’s commitment to achieve at least a 50% reduction in embodied carbon within their projects by 2030.

Her goal is to develop and deliver our advisory and consultancy service in the area of embodied carbon over and above Buro Happold's own dedication to reducing embodied carbon as a company. This also includes upskilling colleagues in their understanding of embodied carbon, primarily in it's measurement and reduction.

As well as the technical aspects of tackling the climate emergency, she is interested in the wider issues around equity and unconscious bias in the built environment, as well as intersectional environmentalism.
