Joints in steel frames
This month we start with a contribution from Mr Denis Wall writing from the Building Control Section of the Dublin Corporation:
It is only rarely, nowadays, that one sees cap plates at the knee joints of portal frames. This is probably why the aspect shown in Fig 1 of the design of knee joints in pitched roof portal frames seems to be ignored in design, although it can have an important effect, particularly when the pitch is steep.
