The Meteorological Ofice, as the national weather service, is responsible for the measurement, collection and archiving of wind data from a network of weather stations across the UK. These data are used for many design applications, including structural design, wind energy, building layout, transport and environmental matters. There is also an extensive collection of marine wind data, from around the UK and over international waters, derived from both observations and numerical forecast model output, which can be applied to a range of coastal and oflshore design and planning problems.
