Technical Report Route
The Technical Report Route is a new route designed for candidates who do not have the requisite academic qualifications accredited to Masters level to allow the candidate to progress to Chartered membership with the Institution.
The route will be of interest to a wide range of Professional experienced applicants including those with accredited BEng (Hons) degrees, ordinary degrees, non-accredited degrees, higher national diploma or certificate qualifications and mature candidates without formal higher education qualifications. Associate-Members of the Institution may also be able to submit a Technical Report in order to demonstrate that they have the engineering knowledge and understanding that is equivalent to Masters level.
The Institution will accept an application through the Technical Report Route only when the applicant has sufficient career experience upon which to base a technical report, and who seem likely to be able, by the time they have completed it, to demonstrate technical ability sufficient to satisfy the specified output standards.
The Technical Report Route is divided into two routes
Technical Report A
Route A is intended to cover those applicants who have obtained an accredited BEng (Hons) degree in civil and/or structural engineering or academic qualifications which are deemed by the Institution to be equivalent. Route A is also designed for candidates who are already AMIStructE holding an IEng accredited degree or equivalent.
Of the two routes, Route A should be the more straightforward as candidates applying through this route will have an academic base that significantly contributes to the academic requirements for Chartered membership.
Technical Report B
Route B is intended for applicants who do not have accredited formal academic qualifications leading to Chartered membership. Applicants will normally be expected to have had considerable experience within the industry and to have attained a level of competence comparable to a Chartered Structural Engineer
