Planning partnership guide to speed up new large scale developments 10/6/2008
A new guide to speed up planning partnerships between councils and developers in the UK has been published by Planning Minister, Iain Wright. The new `step-by-step guide` from the Advisory Team for Large Applications (ATLAS) sets out a logical process for identifying what should be done, when and by whom to reduce problems, and speed up new major developments through the planning system.

Building a zero carbon future 19/5/2008
The Technology Strategy Board recently launched a new initiative that will help UK business to meet the growing global demand for environmentally friendly buildings, while responding to the Government`s challenging targets for improving sustainability. With initial funding of £30 million over three years, the Low Impact Buildings Innovation Platform will work with industry, academics and research organisations to develop new products and services, and help bring them to the market.

Earthquake devastates China 19/5/2008

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, 10km underground, rocked China`s south-western Sichuan province at 14:28 local time (06:28 GMT) on 12th May 2008. It lasted 3 minutes and has killed more than 20,000 people, with many more missing, feared dead. The epicentre was the Longmenshan fault where the Quing-Tibet plateau pushes up relative to the Sichuan Basin. The shocks were felt right across the region, as far as Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan and Japan.

£4M Facelift For `Shakey Bridge` 14/5/2008
A massive project to renew the 109 years old Weston Mill viaduct (UK) has started. Network Rail is spending a total of nine months and an investment of £4 million to improve the condition of the viaduct, which is also known as the `Shakey Bridge`. The renewal project is the largest engineering work carried out on the viaduct since the 1980s.

CIC appoints Keith Clarke as new Deputy Chairman 21/6/2007
The Construction Industry Council has appointed Keith Clarke, Chief Executive of Atkins, as its new Deputy Chairman. Keith succeeds Stuart Henderson in this role, which starts with immediate effect. He will succeed the Rt Hon Nick Raynsford MP as Chairman, for a 2 year term, starting in June 2008.
