Appraisal of Existing Structures - 3rd Edition
Chairman: Brian Bell
Secretary: Ben Cresswell Riol
This report is particularly concerned with the structural appraisal of buildings, but it is also relevant in parts to the appraisal of other constructions such as bridges, masts, chimneys, cooling towers, cranes and gantries, docks and harbour works, underground structures, containment structures, liquid-excluding structures, pipelines and the like. Structures being appraised exist physically as opposed to being designed, and therefore much of the uncertainty present at the design stage is absent. This greater certainty can be taken into account in the appraisal, provided sufficient information is gathered.
The report covers the reasons, principles and test methods employed when conducting an appraisal, as well as health and safety and contractual issues.
The third edition is planned to be published in 2009.
